Collaboration of Merzbow and K.K. Null
Collaboration of Merzbow and Boris
>> Monday, October 29, 2007
A few days ago I was checking out which of my uploads were downloaded the most. Turns out to be that Merzbow collaboration and thus I decided to post some more of his collaborations. For starters I'm going to post his collaboration with one of my favorite band called Boris. Boris is an fairly known band from Japan that usually plays drone or stoner rock/metal but they tend to explore other genres aswell. They had 5 collaborations with Merzbow so far, I have 4 of them and are here in chronological order:

Sun Baked Snow Cave from year 2005
The album consists of a single track that clocks in at over an hour in length. The album artwork was done by Sunn O))) member and regular Hydra Head designer Stephen O'Malley.
Walrus/Groon from year 2007
The A side is a cover of "I Am the Walrus" by The Beatles. The B side shares its name with a King Crimson improvisational piece. A different version of "Groon" appears on Switching Rethorics as "Vanlla Groon", featuring sampled drums/guitar and is credited to Merzbow only. The album artwork is very reminiscent of Roger Dean, in particular his illustrations for the band Yes. The release consists of 5 different vinyl colors: Black, Yellow with Green, White with Green, White with Yellow, and Clear with Green.

Autechre - Untitled
Untilted is the title of Autechre's eighth album. Warp Records released the album in Europe on April 18, 2005 and in North America on April 19, 2005, while Beat Records released it in Japan on April 9, 2005. The album charted at 199 in the UK. A phony version of the album was leaked on file sharing networks simultaneously to the actual album's promotional leak. It became so widespread that Sean Booth commented in an interview "The more fakes the merrier, we’ve released fakes ourselves, but not this time"

Aghast - Hexerei Im Zwielicht Der Finsternis
Time for some spooky darky ambient from Norway! The group consists of only two women and they make some awesome ambient music. Sadly they only released this album and participated in one compilation album which I was not able to find. But that dosen't matter, most of the stuff they recorded is on this cd. Interesting fact is that group members Andrea and Tanja were wives of famous Norwegian black metal bands Emperor and Darkthrone. Rough title translation: "Witchery in the twilight of the darkness".

Collaboration of Masami Akita & Russell Haswell
Masonna
Ah! Good old Maso! All of Maso's projects draw heavily from psychedelic music. He has played with Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock, Aube, Merzbow, Jojo, Solmania, Boris, YBO2, K.K. Null, Blixa Bargeld, The Stars, Acid Mothers Temple among others... but I guess you people who read this already know all this. In case you haven't heard of Masonna then get to it right away! One of the most popular noise/power electronics artist in Japan! Released a bunch of cds and popular for his short energetic but short live performances. There is also interesting thing about his name. M.A.S.O.N.N.A. standing for either Mademoiselle Anne Sanglante Ou Notre Nymphomanie Auréolé (French, meaning in English 'Miss Bloody Anne, Or Our Aureoled Nymphomania'; proper spelling is 'Auréolée') or more rarely Mystic Another Selection Of Nurses Naked Anthology though the name is also a composite of Maso (Japanese for 'Masochist') & Onna (Japanese for 'Girl'). I bring you 3 of his albums and will bring some more of his stuff in the future.

Aaron Dilloway - Corpse On Horseback
Minimalist and somehow depressing noise from a man called Aaron Dilloway. He participated in lots of bands, projects etc. this is his own project. Corpse On Horseback was his first release, the year is unknown to me though but I do know it was released on tape. Contains two tracks cca. 10 minutes long. Enjoy!

Skin Area - New Skin
Skin Area are a swedish project between Magnus Lindh and founding IRM member Martin Bladh. Soundwise they are more of an avantgarde project, centering around clashes of dark ambience and industrial noise. I give you their first work comfortably called New Skin from 2002.

Sephiroth - Cathedron
To continue with some more tasty ambient music. Here we have Sephiroth, it was created in the year 1990 by Ulf Söderberg, through a genuine and burning interest for myths, rituals, and enigmatic monuments and places erected by mankind itself. Influenced by Graeme Revell, Lustmord and Nurse With Wound, Sephiroth relate stories about the inexorable and destructive power of Time, mankind's futile attempts of resistance, and the sunken cities, fallen towers, and overgrown ruins that this has resulted in. Dark eerie soundscapes and ritualistic drums are combined with own field recordings from places like Cairo, Iceland and gloomy Nordic forests. I present you his first album called Cathedron, very dark and brooding, excelent atmosphere!

Ain Soph - 1984 - I
>> Wednesday, October 3, 2007
So one day (yesterday actually) I thought, "why not put some nice and rare ambient stuff to make some refreshment after last noisy month?". Well here's the respond for my question, Ain Soph! Ain Soph arose in Rome in the early 1980's, composing disturbing industrial-ambient soundtracks for their esotheric rituals. The music of their first tape releases is dark, frightening and evocative. In 1988 they released their first LP, the masterpiece "Kshatriya", blending neoclassical arrengements, noise and experimental sounds. At the beginning of the 1990's, Ain Soph radically changed direction, first releasing a collection of sacral-hymn songs, then exploring traditional folk music and psychedelic hard rock. I heard some of their newer stuff and it was not so good from my point of view, ofcourse some people like it but I don't. That's why I bring you their very frist tape! An excelent dark ambient tape that has 4 parts (in this rip version all songs are in one track) with some obvious industrial influences. Enjoy!
You type too much, give me the damn link already. :)
Aube - 2000 - Set-On
Aube is a solo project, begun in 1991 by Akifumi Nakajima. Taking a minimalist approach for his recordings, Nakajima uses simple source sounds which are fed into his system, then heavily processed into a vast dimensional landscape of sonic textures. Source sounds can range from the organic sounds of gurgling water, to isolating elements of technology, such as the curious hum of luminous lamps. The result is a mixture of controlled manipulation and beautiful accident. Since May of 1992, Nakajima started and continues to operate G.R.O.S.S. - his own cassette label dedicated to releasing experimental music, and noise, in addition to his own recordings as Aube. He has worked on recordings with artists from Japan, Europe and the United States in various different capacities and has designed packaging for many other releases. I'm bringing you an album called Set On which contains two tracks called Set On and No Set, both run around half an hour so you get alot of noisy time! CD is packaged between two ceramic tiles, limited to 1000 copies (and as I like to say the more limited the more tasty to listen) and Recorded March-August 2000 at Studio MECCA Kyoto Japan using only stone as a source material. So interesting stuff, have fun!

Fire In The Head - 2005 - As The Nest Burns
Now who said only good noise comes from Japan? Prepeare for some awesome and harsh from Lithuanian (altough it was mastered in Japan ehehe) noise! I don't know much about this project, what I know that Fire in the Head did a split whith famous Richard Ramirez in 2005 (can't find it anywhere though, if anyone has it send it to me so I can upload it or to nikeagogo) but I'm going off topic, again :P
No big words, just enjoy the stuff!
