Vegas Martyrs - The Female Mind

>> Friday, July 31, 2009

And last but not least their full length LP from 2007. This time Dominick had a helping hand with some other members so there's drums here and other, instruments, that are usual for normal bands. Personally I think this is far more superior from their last two releases. Almost like they extracted all the good parts from last two and blended it into this one. Definitely check this one out.

Line up:

Electronics - Richard Dunn
Guitar - Dominick Fernow
Percussion - Joe Potts
Vocals - Richard Dunn

Tracklist:

01. Memantine (3:27)
02. Banalg (2:35)
03. Escitalopram (7:02)
04. Levothroid (3:50)
05. Dinoprotone (7:05)
06. Acamprosate (6:45)

Vegas Martyrs - Prostitute At Bablyon

To continue the orgasm here's the second release from Vegas Martyrs. This one is pretty much harsh noise with some faint guitar melodies in the back on the first track. The second track has much more clear riffs and less noise.

Tracklist:

A Memantine (10:00)
B Levothroid (10:00)

Released via Hospital Productions in 2005 on cassette.

Nyodene D - Pig

Pig is the tenth studio album for Nyodene D. This album focuses on societal excess, media over-saturation, greed, depravity, obsession and hatred. Expect synth-heavy power electronics with amplified metal percussion, distorted vocals and many samples.

As always, some mighty fine power electronics.

Ascites - Incisional Drainage cdr + c-6

Ascites is a four piece noise band from USA. They also collaborate often with other people so they tend to have more than four people in it. How does it sound? Well they tend to drift from one sound to another so it's a bit harder to pinpoint their exact genre. But who cares about genres anyway? :P

Our long time friend and contributor from the old days Txnoiz is one member of this collective and he sent us their first full length DIY release. It contains a tape and a cdr neatly packed in a specimen bag (which is totally cool!). The tape part of the album is harsher and overall more noisy compared to the cdr. It packs just two short tracks which I think is a shame (you could squeeze more tracks in there dammit :D). The CDr unlike the tape is more experimental in its essence. It starts more relaxed and drony but as tracks go on it drifts more into the noise department. The last track on the album is a live recording and it sounds (at least to me) something like what C.C.C.C. do. All in all this is some really good stuff and should not be overlooked! >:|

Tracklisting:
CDR
1. Pukebath (8:00)
2. Forced Entry (5:00)
3. Abdominal Distension (10:00)
4. Soft Adult Contemporary (6:00)

Robedoor - Ritual Heirs

Oh here's something to break the dull harsh noise that we have been posting for a few weeks (or days?) now.

They sound a bit like Emeralds but more distorted and heavier. It's still something along those lines. Atmospheric, drone and it goes whoooooooooossssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

2 Mirage Of White Crowns (15:01)
3 Wasted Estate (11:08)

Mortalized & The Guilty Connector - Concerto For Harsh Noise Grind #1

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

When I first saw this my impression was: "wut? :O". Apparently this is an legit release. I know very little of it. There's some scarce information on Metal Archives and Discogs. Supposedly it's a tape released in 2001. The tracklist on both sites is different from the one I have but I guess the person who was ripping this knew what he was doing. The music itself is very short (lasts around 7 minutes in total) but it's a wild ride through those 7 minutes. Fast crunchy grindcore fused with br00tal harsh noise. What more could you want?

Tracklist:

01. Babylon, Burning (1:50)
02. Parallel (0:30)
03. A Planet (0:38)

Zack Stenger - The One Day I Forget to Bring my Blade

Another Zack Stenger album. I'm sure you all loved his last one so he shared another one of his with us. Like before this one is also constructed out of short, fast and glitchy noises and it's very lovely. To continue tradition here's another completely unrelated picture (we need some controversy around here dammit) because well all know which country has the biggest balls.

I won't bother with tracklist since it has 31 songs, the whole thing lasts around 40 minutes. ~(¤_¤)/

Mutilory - Other Planes‏

We introduced Mulitory some time ago. Well anyway, this is his latest release called Other Planes. This time around there's more structure and naturally the album is more polished. As weird as it sounds it's now more melodic. :S But all in all I think it still has that vibe that I loved in the first few releases.

Tracklist:

01. First Plane (3:18)
02. Second Plane (4:27)
03. Third Plane (5:03)
04. Fourth Plane (5:31)

The snapping of whips, the whipping of flags - City Of Rats

The snapping of whips, the whipping of flags is Noise from the north woods of Wisconsin. It is a solo project working with a bare minimum of hardware, mostly with an analog tape recorder, microphones, and minor distortion equipment now and then. The focus is more on making good field recordings or finding rare sources and radio frequencies to dissect and transform, rather than simply combining everything to make the loudest noise (though that, also, is wonderful).

The politics of a culture are never separate from the aesthetics of its terror. America has its second identity, buried in the silence between intentional sounds. You can see it sometimes in the nuanced body language of a shopper or a tourist. Or, of course, when you come across an abandoned mine in the forest. But the auditory aspect is harder to grasp. I find that I come closest when the microphone makes contact with the object, and when the space between words is amplified. There is also a special kind of meditation in sifting through the terrible things which we obsessively document and record: the voices of serial killers, of pilots on a crashing plane, the dry-tongued press conferences discussing such disasters. There is a way to get at the layer of nightmare. To translate it, though vaguely.

As the description above says. This is more on the abstract side of noise rather than on the louder and harsher sound. Some tracks can get a bit of repetitive but that might be just to me (not really accustomed to this kind of noise so I can't really say anything constructive ^o^).

Tracklist:

01. Torches in the Swamp (7:31)
02. we have built a machine that feeds on the skin of the face and which seals all the orifices of one’s body with surgical precision (1:04)
03. their identity papers burst into bloom, displaying delicate petals of pink, gold, and white (2:46)

05. City of Rats (1:25)

Peter Sotos - Buyer's Market

I'm sure you all heard of Sotos. Well if you haven't he was one of the members of Whitehouse for a really long time. Some people liked him and some thought he's a complete dick. Granitkorridor - Granitkorridor

Have you ever played Fallout? Have you ever played Fallout 3? Have you ever visited vault 87? Remember those rusty old corridors in bleak darkness in there?

Well this tape pretty much sounds like that. Dark, atmospheric and utterly deep and minimalist. Dark ambient as it should be! Granitkorridor exists since summer 2008, as a conjunction of guitar pedals-processed mixer feedback, bass guitar and synthesizers.

Recommended!

Deterior - Music for Nucleonics & Automata

>> Thursday, July 9, 2009

Deterior is a one-man sludge metal/post-rock/noise band formed around 2004 by Andrew Arnold in North Canton, Ohio (now in Columbus, Ohio). As far as I understand his main area is post-metal but he sent us two of his more noisy tapes.

Music for Nucleonics

This one sounds pretty much how it looks. Slow, simplistic and atmospheric.

Tracklist:

01. Decay I (6:34)
02. Sferic (7:14)
03. Decay II (10:19)

Music for Automata

Ah, this one is much more fun! Much more texture and imagination. Starts more ambient oriented but later on drifts more and more into noise. Kinda cool progression. I suggest you start with this one first.

02. Automata (3:03)

Rob Ashtoffen - Noise Atos

Noise Atos is a project of noise music. In this EP, recorded in the 2008's xmas evening, I talk, in the form of music, about the body and its noises. Blows, Heart pumping, fluids, flesh and blood. That's what we are in our fisiology. That's what, in 6 acts, I try to tranform in noise.

Brazilian weirdness. Or so I call it. Bunch of various sounds and they all blend well (In some songs, some are a bit annoying). It's not standard pedal driven noise but from various instruments and cacophony.

Grundale Records

Grundale Records is a label from midwest America. They release underground noise, drone, punk, ska and metal and so far they have around 30 releases. The label is run by a guy from Nyodene D which we featured some time ago here. They offered us three releases.

Nyodene D - Live Actions

This is the tenth Nyodene D release in total. It contains nearly an hour of live power electronics soundboard recordings taken from various shows in Athens, Ohio. Expect blasts of searing feedback, mangled synth loops, walls of distortion and ravaged vocals. Thank you for all who have supported this project and who will encounter it in the future.
As the title says it's all live shows. Lots of feedback and cacophonoy. Sometimes it can get a bit annoying with all the feedback but it's all good stuff.

Tracklist:

01. The (Bruce) Manor 5/6/09 (11:28)
02. The Crystal Castle 5/15/09 (7:57)
03. The Crystal Castle 2/13/09 (17:57)
04. Brown Town 1/9/09 (16:06)
05. --- (0:13)

Nyodene D - Industrial Decay

A new album of bleak power electronics utilizing vocals, samples, feedback and synths. Industrial Decay is an album that focuses on the decay of industry and quality of life in Rust Belt towns, specifically centered on Cleveland. Themes deal with industrial collapse, government inaction, mental illness, depression and drug abuse. Collage by Aaron Vilk and photographs used for it taken by the lovely Ms. Christine Davis.

Similar to live shows but less feedback, more progression in sound and more structure. I prefer this more.

Tracklist:

01. Cycle of Addiction
02. Sweet Heroin
03. Industrial Decay
04. Glory, Glory, Hallelujah
05. Creep
06. LTV
07. Rope Along Pipes

Pyrrhic Thanatology Monger - What's Left

Disgusting, gut-wrenching harsh noise from James Haras, a.k.a. Pyrrhic Thanatology Monger from Rockford, Il. This album is a miserable blend of searing feedback and stomach churning walls of sound from a young noisician who runs the small cassette label Fusty Cunt Records. Reccommended if you like Pedestrian Deposit, The Rita, Sewer Election.

Three long tracks of noise fuckery in the head. There's also some screaming here and there but it's mostly harsh noise. I think my ears will fall off if I countinue life like this. :D
