First Terror Noise Audio Birthdaaaaaaaaaaaayyy

>> Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Since internet is such serious business I think we deserve a bit out of the ordinary post.Well it's already one year ago when our admin Nikeagogo aka Where-the-hell-are-you-and-why-aren't-you-posting made the very first post on TNA. As expected for the first post it was nothing constructive but just a welcome. A bit later I (Burek) joined forces and also began to post. But I guess it all first started on now shut down The Ultimate Metal forum. On those forums there was a section called Industrial (or something like that) where we used to spam with noise bands that only 6-7 people would download but we (at least I) had a lot of fun and that's how most of us met and later on joined or at least participated on TNA. Over time I guess we got quite popular and today we usually have 900 visits daily which is plenty since there's not many people into noise compared to other totally underground genres like metal and punk. All in all it was and still is very fun to be here. I know I made a promise at one point of our existence and I did my best not to post in-print albums but there's so much good stuff that is in print that I just could not resist so yes, I'm a total slut because of that.

Anyway I hoped you enjoyed visiting us and I hope you'll continue to visit us until we close down for whatever reason or get sued and thrown into jail for copyright laws or if an angry mob of concerned mothers kills and burns us all because we ruined their children.

Also I (and I believe the rest of the staff) would like to give a big thanks to (sorted alphabetically): Amp Tower Recordings, Andrew Powell, Anonymous contributer (you know who you are ;)), Chandler N., Chris Goudreau and his label for not suing us, Dahgrow, Drago (where are you?), For Kings and Queens, J, K., Lackthrow, Matthew Sochocki, Orfee, PM, Roger Camden, Skullgrid, Twilight Luggage, William Bennet and Susan Lawly label for not suing us, Zmaj, all the bands/labels that sent us their stuff, all the blogs/sites/forums that linked us, all the people that said thanks in our shoutbox and also a big thanks to that guy who spamed our shoutbox with "Nig.ger" or something like that it really made my day haha.

Also a big thanks to the rest of the present and past staff.

Sorry if I forgot someone but you all know that we love you. ^_^

And now for the present!

I gave much thought while I was away on what should I post but finally I decided to post:

Aidan Baker - Noise of Silence

[2007 / Canada / Hyperblasted Recordings / Lim.150]

The whole work is an amazing piece of art. The musical part is one 50-minute long time track by Mr. Baker in his own experimentalish drone/ambient/noise stuff. Aidan Baker "builds" his music piece by piece, step by step. Imposing atmospheres, genious guitar drones and loops lead the track to a climax. A masterpiece of experimental music.

Peter Wright - Air Guitar

[2006 / New Zealand / Drone Records / lim.300]

This 3-piece EP #Air Guitar# consists of little fluxion-mantras, made by waving guitar-overtones & sounds of air & water, with little additional sounds of daily room-noises. Ultra-minimal & harmonic, but with a certain raw directness & concreteness that creates a unique atmosphere, these wonderful over-tonic vibrations & sounds seem to tell little stories or daydream-phantasies

Keiji Haino [灰野 敬二] & Coil - Play The Blues

Cite: "Haino is the name to follow in underground circles in Japan. Notorious for the noise he makes on his guitars, this short 45-min set has him with Coil stripping the blues to the bone. You’ve never heard these blues standards played like this before. This gig is part of the tenth anniversary celebrations for the Maboroshi no Sekai label. The band are Keiji Haino [vocals, gtr, harmonica], Natsuki Kido [gtr], Takeharu Hayakawa [bs] and Eiji Tanaka [drms]. This is a fine DAT audience recording, never released before."

Hauenfiomiume? Wow. I dare you to say that really fast one time, let alone 10. Betcha can’t. This is the third album from the duo of Keiji Haino + Tatsuya Yoshida, following Until Water Grasps Flame in 2002 and New Rap in 2006. It’s also part one of a projected two-part release. My, how ambitious!

Quite different from this duo’s previous output, Hauenfiomiume is exceedingly odd, quirky, and chock full of a wide variety of tracks that can and will turn on a dime. The sounds veer so suddenly! From classical acoustic guitar bathed in reverb to quiet, moaning, forlorn vocals to maniacally-paced distorted electric guitar and drums to weirdly sped-up interludes with screaming vocals to repetitive, dry guitar and drum riffs to strange, slow, echoing drum rhythms to somewhat straightforward rock to whispered vocals with electric reverb guitar supported by a steady kick drum beat to more classical guitar and keyboard tangles with vocals from Yoshida to a New Rap-style electric guitar and drum kit attack with hyperactive explosions to complex riffs with spoken vocals and backup singing to distorted feedback riffs to a quiet flute and drum interlude to rapid-fire stop ‘n’ start garble to fractured acoustic guitar rhythms with buried singing to upbeat, distorted rock to frantically chopped-up weirdness to heavily edited, ultra dry, distorted, stabbing rhythms with garbled vocals to clouds of blurry chaos to a strange baroque dream and back to the classical guitar that started it all.

It’s good to hear Yoshida on bass and keyboards as well as the usual drums, and his singing in particular melds nicely with Haino’s and helps set these sessions apart. Plus, Yoshida’s taut, heavily edited production takes Haino to places he’d never go alone. It also makes this variety show sound like a consistent collection. If you’re a private in the Army, don’t worry about blasting Hauenfiomiume in the barracks, because if your sargeant makes an unexpected appearance, he’ll be able to bounce a dime off of this music, no problem. All in all, this is a fresh, vital work from both artists. And it comes appropriately housed in an ultra-luxurious, three-panel mini-LP jacket festooned with colorful(!) artwork from both Haino and Yoshida prominently displayed under heavy gloss. This one’s a keeper.

A bit of a mixture, but the track `My Only Friend` almost makes it worthwhile. This track is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard with the ringing chords, echoeing bass humming, and feedback sighing in the distance, with Haino san balladeering with pure emotion. Should be released as a single with Haino san dancing, and he would be in the charts. As a whole not so together but probably good to start with, along with Fushitsusha double Live I.

compact disc - 9 tracks - 59 minutes 09 seconds
studio album - recorded February - April 1998
Keiji Haino (guitar, voice)
Ikuro Takahashi (drums)
Masami Kawaguchi (bass)

Keiji Haino's best album? A strong sense of melody is present. Whatever the 60s originals might have sounded like, Haino makes these songs entirely his own. Playing this record to friends unfamiliar with his work, they say it doesn't sound like they expected it to sound. Vocals high in the mix, can be listened to even when you have a headache. Contanins three beautiful ballads which are very laid back. Track Five has irresistable fuzz bass and drums rhythm, quite funky. Track two combines Haino's distinctive roaring guitar with a pop song structure which makes a nice change. Elsewhere Derek Bailey style clattering and screaming vocals. And Track Three has the most violent sound, haromica in what could be a cover of "Please Don't Let Me be Misunderstood" by the Animals. I love this record.

Dälek - Absence

>> Tuesday, August 19, 2008

"Dälek has released one of 2005’s most curious albums, and possibly one of its best: a roaring bitch of a hip-hop noise album that screams and burns and shatters and coughs up blood to spit in your ears. Featuring shimmering, intricate industrial horrorscapes, wicked turntablism, slow and dirty beats and a brooding emcee named Dälek, the collective slays. But apparently, Dälek exists in some weird nexus between the experimental metal and hip-hop crowd, whining with too much tight turntablism and rapping for the experimental metal crowd and too much massive industrial droning and fractured noise for backpackers. Merzbow - F.I.D.

F.I.D. recalls a much earlier period of Merzbow, when his noise excursions were produced on analogue equipment and before he co-opted digitial recording techniques for his noise composition. Well it's been a while since I posted anything that I made. This is just one song but it's completely different from anything I did before because recently I acquired some artsy-fartsy laptop and I can now be a proper Merzbow clone! x) Now that I have this new equipment my stuff is no longer lo-fi which means that now I can actually record all the sounds I make and they actually sound like they are supposed to sound yay!

It's very live and energetic and also very loud so I suggest you lower your volume before you start listening. I'm very satisfied with my new sound but I'm interested in what other people think so comments are greatly encouraged!

Diana Rogerson - The Lights Are On But No-One's Home

"Diana Rogerson was a member of cult band Whore 156 in the 1970’s. Dubbed ‘the female Whitehouse’, they later became Fistfuck in the early ‘80’s. They were legendary lynchpins in the London underground industrial scene, alongside bands like S.P.K. and Whitehouse. The new cd, released on United Jnana, is the long awaited follow-up to the 1987 album Belle De Jour. It is a collection of new songs and instrumentals in her unique style. This recording was made with the help of Steven Stapleton and Colin Potter (of Nurse With Wound) and also Matt Waldron of irr.app."

Various - Mafia vs. Yakuza

Neat packaging right? :D

Great compilation that has some rather popular acts but also has utterly unknown to me band/whatever called 666 Psych Up Girls. Music is very progressive there's a lot of interesting sounds and to fill in the mood there's also plenty of sound clips from various gangster movies. The Compilation is split into two CDs. One is mafia and second is Yakuza. I'm afraid I don't have the first disc but since it would be really a shame that I don't post this I uploaded only what I have and I only have the second disc.

If anyone has the first disc please share it with us. ^_^

Second disc Tracklist:

01. MSBR Yakuza Gothic (8:02)
02. Government Alpha The Lost Messengers Part 1 (9:45)
03. Government Alpha The Lost Messengers Part 2 (11:38)
04. 666 Psych Up Girls Psychedelic Yakuza Onna (27:16)

Matthew Sochocki - Black Throne

Very good release I received a while ago. It's less noise and more drone I guess. Long droning tracks that are not so harsh or intensive but much more calmer and relaxing (at least to me). Some more variation would do good in following works but I liked this one too so check it out. ^_^

Tracklist:

01. Ruin (23hz) (0:10)
02. the Ghost: A Howl in the Winter Air (10:20)
03. the Ghost: Greeting the Hordes Invading These Halls (13:56)
04. Dead (52hz) (0:10)
05. Black Throne (31:46)
06. Hail (104hz) (0:10)
07. the Wanderer (12:58)
08. Wait (16001hz) (0:10)
